Life aboard Polarstern
Life aboard Polarstern is anything but ordinary, with each day offering new challenges and experiences in the heart of the Arctic.
Embark on an incredible journey into the fascinating world of polar ecology research! Each expedition reveals thrilling scientific discoveries. Continuing the vigor of the epic ATWAICE expedition of 2022, we're exploring delicate and stunning polar environments with unparalleled enthusiasm. Our mission? To understand how global warming affects the microscopic foundations of the ocean's food chain. Every voyage is a treasure trove of amazing discoveries and collaborations! Witness the incredible potential of automation firsthand, leading to the creation of DeepLOKI – a groundbreaking AI tool for classifying zooplankton right on the Polarstern research vessel. This year, the HHU Team is thrilled to embark on an Arctic expedition to collect and analyze the marine virome in the Fram Strait and Marginal Ice Zone. We're more excited than ever to understand how virus diversity and its interactions with hosts are influenced by changing environmental conditions. Join us on this exhilarating journey driven by curiosity and a commitment to understanding our planet's most remote ecosystems!
